REFRESHER CHILDBIRTH CLASS

With a first pregnancy, most couples have the flexibility to spend ample time in preparing for the birth. Once there is a toddler in the picture, however, busy couples may find that the refresher class is the first chance that they have had to focus on this pregnancy and birth!

For couples who had taken Childbirth Classes for their first pregnancy, this 3-hour class is an ideal way to review the stages of labor, comfort and relaxation techniques.

Refresher Childbirth Classes are scheduled upon request.

GOTTMAN ‘BRINGING BABY HOME’ PROGRAM

Becoming parents is a new beginning. For most couples, it is a time of hope, anticipation, and excitement.

Most parenting classes focus on baby, baby, baby. But what about the two people who made the baby? The secret to successfully managing the transition is to keep your relationship strong, and parent as a team.

8-week class

  • The Gottman Institute’s research-based Bringing Baby Home program prepares couples for life with a baby and helps them be the best parenting team possible.

With a convenient online format, parents learn to strengthen their relationship and foster their baby’s development.

They build on what Dr. Gottman and colleagues found is the best predictor of relationship adjustment after a new baby arrives: the quality of friendship in the relationship.

When babies grow up in a home with a positive, playful parenting team, they feel safe, nurtured, and available to learn. They cry less, they smile more, and their parents’ cooperation helps them to pay better attention during play time so that they get more out of it.

  • Dr. Coral Slavin is a Gottman Bringing Baby Home Program Educator. She has a M.A. & Ph.D. in Health Education, and a M.S.Ed. degree in Family Life. She has over 25 years of teaching experience.

Free time may be almost non-existent, but you deserve to spend at least one hour a week focused on each other.

HEART-BASED PARENTING PROGRAM COACHING

  • A heart-based approach to parenting is different than simple behavior modification, which basically says, “If you do what I say, I’ll give you what you want.”

The problem with that approach is that it promotes a selfish “What’s in it for me?” attitude. Children become externally motivated and behavior change is temporary.

A heart-based approach takes advantage of the internal motivation inside a child for lasting results. It helps children learn how to develop convictions, process offenses, and value others.

  • Heart-Based Parenting was developed by Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN. It is a Christian-based program offered through the National Center for Biblical Parenting. You do not have to be Christian, however, to benefit from this highly effective parenting approach.

The program has been well-researched and evaluated, demonstrating efficacy for families of all backgrounds.

  • With my help as your coach, you will focus on one issue with one child (ideally age 4 to 14).

Maybe your child can’t follow instructions and needs to develop cooperation. Or, perhaps your child has a problem with meanness and needs to be kinder. Maybe your child is unorganized, or seems to have a bad attitude.

Learning the skills and strategies in this program will help that child make positive changes in just eight weeks.

You can work through the program at your own pace, but pick a period when you can devote time to view the videos, read the materials, meet with me, and practice with your child.

  • The cost of the 8-week program is $149 and includes all materials.

  • Parents take the online classes on a schedule that is convient for them. The coach meets weekly with the parents to collaborate on implementing the lessons.
